JOB TITLE: Business Analyst

REPORTING TO: Business Solution Manager

ROLE PURPOSE: Responsible for conducting effective analysis to clarify, evaluate business problems and requirements for change in a manner which supports the identification of solutions which deliver value to House of Fraser, as well as the subsequent design of the business (process and organisational) solution. This includes documentation of requirements and business solutions using various methods, such as: Process Mapping; Use Cases; Impact Mapping; Functional Requirements Specifications; and Features (User Stories).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy & Planning

  • Investigates operational requirements, problems and opportunities, seeking effective business solutions through improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes
  • Validate proposed business and technical solution designs and test approaches to ensure alignment with requirements and business needs

Business Demand Management

  • Work with the business to methodically investigate, analyse and elicit business requirements aligned with the objectives of the initiative/project
  • Ensure identified requirements are documented (covering business, functional, non-functional) and are prioritised
  • Carry out analysis of impact, risks, technical dependencies and review/validate expected benefits, seeking input from senior business analysts or business architects where required
  • Ensure requirements and solution scope remain aligned and focussed on delivery of business benefits through regular discussion and review with the Business Solution Manager

Business Solution Design

  • Discover and document the as-is process by applying various process modelling techniques
  • Analyse, validate and document existing business processes and map functional and non-functional requirements onto the to-be process model in order to demonstrate the impact of change
  • Design, model and document the to-be process, performing gap analysis and identifying areas for improvement
  • Assess & communicate impact of proposed solution on the organisation (people, organisation, processes, metrics & systems etc.)
  • Facilitate user acceptance testing of system changes and support change projects through to successful delivery, implementation and operation against pre-determined acceptance criteria
  • Occasionally undertakes project management activities on small projects when requested, including producing the required documentation, management of the risks and budget, etc. as specified in the operating model.

Change Management

  • With input from the business architect/senior business analyst when required, understand the full impact that technology solutions will have on the business and advises on how the associated change should be managed and communicated to ensure it is landed successfully
  • Support and ensure the business in undertaking the necessary preparation activities to allow process changes to be successfully embedded
  • Support the business in creating appropriate training plans, training materials and communication plans to support the business change activities

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • ISEB / IIBA Business Analysis accreditation
  • Experience working in a business analysis role, preferably in a retail environment
  • Experience of developing business cases for investment and change
  • Solid experience in business analysis techniques, such as information gathering methods, requirements documentation, process modelling and process mapping
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and communicate with peers, senior business-leaders, Business Technology Leadership and wider Business Technology team
  • Good facilitation skills, acting as a liaison between the business stakeholders and technical delivery teams translating concepts into language that is easily understood by both
  • A good working understanding of Microsoft applications – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Visio
  • Proven business analysis skills applied in a work environment, experience of working within both Waterfall and iterative/Agile project environments along with knowledge of methodologies (e.g. Prince 2 and SCRUM) and tools (e.g. Jira / Confluence) and experience of working to time, cost, and quality objectives
  • Solid experience of conducting business analysis and managing requirements using a variety of best practice methods
  • Experience of working on different elements of  the lifecycle of a variety of projects
  • Confident in requirement gathering techniques, facilitating workshops and delivering presentations assigned business areas and wider Business Technology Team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience working with project management principles, e.g. RAID logs, Project plans and budgets
  • Experience of working on projects with complex integration and data from multiple systems, with support from senior business analysts/business architect as necessary
  • Strong experience in business analysis techniques, such as information gathering methods, requirements documentation, process modelling and process mapping
  • Good level of understanding of technical terminology and preferably experience of working in a technical/e-commerce environment

  • Demonstrable ability to take ownership and make decisions in a fast paced environment, showing judgement on when to seek additional support/input
