Role Purpose:

Define & implement the multi-channel product & trading strategy for the Fashion categories. Ensure the overall product offer is aligned to the needs of the HOF core customer and delivers on key KPIs

Key Responsibilities:    

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • In conjunction with the Executive Product & Trading Director, Commercial Director, Design Director & B&M Director Home & Beauty, contribute to the strategic and operational plan for the Buying and Merchandising function as a whole.
  • Support the Buying and Merchandising  strategy & ensure it is implemented effectively in Fashion Buying, Merchandising & QA functions.
  • Develop a multi-channel trading plan that delivers budgeted KPIs & is aligned with the brand objectives
  • Develop a product strategy that caters fully to the needs and desires of HOF’s core customer and aligns with HOF brand values.
  • Determine appropriate balance across routes to market (private label, wholesale brands, concessions), considering HOF risk and flexibility for future change.
  • Ensure ranges are balanced and that key inputs are researched and considered in driving the range assortment (consumer insights, competitors, directional and global trends, history, local demographics).
  • Identify new product opportunities/extensions as they emerge in the market. Propose clear plans on implementation.
  • Undertake regular reviews across categories to ensure financial targets are on track, identify risks and opportunities and take appropriate action as necessary.
  • Develop appropriate source of supply for private label ranges across long and short lead sources, balancing margin and flexibility to optimise achieved margin, whilst also adhering to HOF sourcing code of conduct and maximising sustainability/minimising environmental impact.
  • Develop strong relationships with key brand partners and leverage relationships to maximise brand support to HOF.
  • Evolve quality control processes (from upstream to DC) to improve quality standards of product & presentation.
  • Work closely with marketing and visual merchandising functions to ensure marketing material/campaigns and in-store & online execution are aligned with the product strategy & has appropriate inventory support.
  • Build relationships with external counterparts to keep ahead of emerging trends, ideas and industry/sector insights

Other Duties

Experience Required:

  • 2+ Years operating at B&M/Buying/Merchandising Director level in a fashion retailer, ideally within a sizeable, multi-channel organisation
  • WW experience preferable, but breadth of experience across other product categories would be an advantage
  • Experience of both private label & branded buying
  • Led teams through a period of change/transformation & growth
  • Proven record of delivering results
