Finance Manager – Reporting 

The Finance Manager – Reporting’s role is to deliver the month-end, forecast and budget to the Head of Commercial Finance.  This role will work closely with the Commercial, Corporate & Accounting Services Finance teams, ensuring accurate reporting, risks / opportunities are identified, the latest information is reflected, and is consistent with the business expectations, highlighting exceptions.

Key Responsibilities include:


  • Own the month end process, taking specific responsibility for the month-end calls and company reporting, ensuring a Flash P&L is delivered to the CFO.
  • Proactively identifying any variances and continually communicate any risks and opportunities to the Head of Commercial Finance.
  • Challenge & support the finance functions / business to help mitigate these risks as well as maximising the opportunities.
  • Providing options and ideas to mitigate overspends / budget risks
  • Develop / use exception reporting to improve efficiency of identifying risk & opportunities.

Forecasting and Budgeting

  • Manage the budgeting process with the Finance teams, supporting the Head of Commercial Finance to deliver the company roll-up.
  • Take specific responsibility for the budget pack, organising the budget meetings, briefing the Finance Team, version control (highlighting material movements / variances) and updating the Head of Commercial Finance through the process.
  • Develop robust quarterly forecasting model that can support both company level view & location accountability.  Work with the Finance functions to deliver the quarterly forecast, along with the high level monthly update, and support the Head of Commercial Finance to provide the company view to the CFO.

Ad-Hoc Projects/Responsibilities

  • Follow-up on outputs from reporting, budgeting & forecasting, to maximise benefits, minimise risk & help beat profit expectations.
  • Complete any commercial financial projects supporting the business as the need arises.
  • Participate in projects or carry out any other duties that may be outside the standard remit that will benefit the company.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Experience in a retail industry or relevant sector
  • CIMA or ACCA part qualified
  • Commercially and analytically minded
  • Ability to influence and challenge people at all levels, and assert / close discussions with more senior members of Finance team
  • Excellent IT skills with intermediate/advanced skills in Excel
  • Results orientated with good communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to build spreadsheets in excel to analyse data
  • Capability in Oracle / COGNOS would also be valuable
  • Ability to identify and communicate recommendations based on facts
