Key accountabilities and decision ownership include:

  • Monitor TAM (the action manager) to approve outstanding accidents/incidents and follow up with store if needed.
  • Monitor TAM for “RED” store dashboard and escalate to the H&S Specialist.
  • Review policies for assured advice from Westminster CC
  • Upload all Fire Risk Assessments to TAM and ensure all fire actions are submitted via TAM to the appropriate store.
  • Monitor TAM for any trends relating to accidents and incidents and escalate these to the Health and safety Specialist.
  • Advise on matters relating to Health and Safety at work, including the obligations and responsibilities of managers and employees; and provide comprehensive and practical advice to line managers on best practice.
  • Assist to investigate and report upon all major incidents/accidents and near misses across head office and stores.
  • Monitor and review Health and Safety Risk Assessments, audits and reports and build action plans to implement across head office and stores.
  • Assist Managers/Supervisors in formulating safe systems of work as may be dictated by local circumstances.
  • Identify the training needs of staff in accordance with the Health and Safety training agenda, and liaise with managers to nominate staff for Health and Safety training.
  • Carry out inspections and ensure that Health and Safety rules are being observed, advising of safety measures in relation to new works/modifications.
  • To assist in the implementation of generic risk assessments in stores and to ensure store specific assessments are completed.
  • To regularly carry out the store audits as directed by the risk rating system.
  • Organise suitable safety/training education programmes to stimulate safety consciousness at all levels, specifically in relation to management/supervisors.  
  • Drive a positive safety culture across all sites and at all levels.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Legal and Compliance as needed.

Skills, know-how and experience:

  • Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation and current practice.
  • Proven ability to interpret health and safety legislation and prepare and implement health and safety policies, procedures and codes of practice.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with challenging stakeholders across a business.
  • Has the ability to push through barriers to get the job done efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Customer focused, self-motivated, enthusiastic and organised.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate initiative and creativity to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Good attention to detail and word processing skills.
