The role of the Category Marketing Specialist

To own day-to-day category planning and management of all marketing for your defined category(s), and to drive quality category footfall to stores and qualified traffic to the website/digital devices using aspirational, engaging, cost efficient and highly relevant and targeted specialist 360 category marketing campaigns and channel management (ATL, BTL, in-store and digitally).  Work collaboratively across functions with your category and digital B&M teams, brand, retention & DM marketing specialists, content editors and creative services teams to plan and create compelling and inspirational category management story-telling and promotional activity to drive cross channel sales.  Manage category brand partner relationships, working closely with B&M, to secure creative brand assets and supplier funding to create inspirational, thoughtful and effective retail campaigns, publications, events and experiences that drive profitable sales and ROI.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  • Own, create, compile, update and manage your category(s) promotional and category calendar, under the overall HoF marketing calendar, and ensure effective communications, briefing and set up of all campaign activities and events to relevant departments
  • Manage your category marketing budget, supplier funding and critical path
  • Analyse sales to measure category campaign effectiveness and work with Customer Data, Insights and Research teams to identify trends and make recommendations for future campaigns and to attract supplier funding for new and ongoing initiatives.  Monitor supplier performance to meet agreed promotional targets (sales, NCA etc)
  • Actively participate in your category B&M/sales manager annual conference
  • Manage all category marketing supplier relationships for day-to-day category marketing management , planning, execution and supplier funding negotiations
  • Work closely with suppliers and cross-functional colleagues with regard to advertising, promotions, visual merchandising, windows and availability of samples for presentations, creative origination, press &  influencers
  • Build strong relationships with all key business partners and suppliers, acting as an ambassador, customer and category champion for House of Fraser.
  • Work in partnership with B&M & Retail to build, communicate & deliver plans

Skills, know-how and experience.  Must have:

  • Passionate, curious about the category with a customer centric approach
  • 3-5 years relevant category marketing  management experience, ideally with Marketing Degree or relevant and specific proven work experience
  • Experience and knowledge of working within premium department store categories in a multi-channel retail marketing team or brand agency
  •  Track record of working with premium brand partners to secure marketing funding to successfully plan, develop and execute co-funded 360 inspiring, effective and engaging marketing campaigns
  • Expert knowledge, media planning & buying and creative briefing experience developing and executing effective, engaging, inspiring category marketing campaigns, events, experiences and publications
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation & communications skills
  • Proactive, inspiring and commercial approach: able to identify and innovate, work at pace in a dynamic market, spotting relevant new trends and  ideas to help differentiate HoF category campaigns from our competitors.  Highly brand and category literate with good taste levels
