The role of Project Manager

Accountable for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of medium-scale projects (typically with direct business impact and firm deadlines). Responsible for the planning, direction, shaping and execution of the end to end delivery of multiple projects and programmes, to meet the agreed business needs, acquiring and utilising the necessary resources and skills, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales and quality.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

Strategy & Planning

  • Initiate projects, identifying and analysing preliminary business needs, budget considerations, time and resource estimates and defining the project scope and objectives
  • Identify roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of assigned business areas
  • Work with the Technology team to confirm project team resources required for delivery of the of project
  • Create and maintain the project plan for delivery of the end to end project with clearly identified milestones, incorporating necessary project gate reviews and checkpoints

Programme & Project Management

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of the end-to-end project to meet the agreed business requirements within timescale, cost and quality constraints, and in accordance with the agreed methods and standards
  • Monitor and control resources, revenue and capital costs against the project budget and manages expectations of all project stakeholders
  • Provide direction and structure to assigned projects activities, establishing
  • clear, precise goals, objectives and timeframes
  • Ensure that realistic project plans are maintained and the project objectives are achieved within agreed time, budget and quality constraints
  • Identify, track and manage project issues and risks ensuring mitigating actions are carried out and/or escalation takes place to the relevant stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Ensure key deliverable documents are completed as required by the project with the corresponding sign off
  • Ensure preparation for the gate review meetings, as specified in project governance process, is carried out to avoid unnecessary project delays
  • Ensure service and operations roles are involved in the project as needed (particularly during the design phase), to ensure activities required for a smooth transition into service takes place
  • Build and maintain assigned domain project team, managing the work effort and track progress against the plan
  • Initiate post implementation reviews to ensure that lessons are learnt from each project implementation so as to feed into optimising the overall programme

Third Parties management

  • Manage all third parties (including system integrators (SI)) to time, budget and quality.
  • Provide input into and review of all necessary work orders and contracts for third parties involved in the project delivery

Communication & Business Relationships

  • Ensure regular and accurate project status is communicated to key project stakeholders
  • Report progress to the Director, the wider Operations Team and business stakeholders
  • Partner with business and Technology colleagues to deliver a number of cross-channel initiatives for HoF
  • Work with the Business Analysts and Architects to ensure that new business processes are accurately mapped and documented and the implications of these are clearly understood by stakeholders
  • Contribute fully to the Technology teams overall roadmap and strategy

Skills, know-how and experience:

Must have:

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Qualification in project management or equivalent (i.e. PRINCE2)
  • Proven track record in delivering Technology Projects
  • Experience of working within fast paced, multi-channel customer focused organisations, within the retail sector
  • Commercial and business understanding of key project drivers
  • A strong track record of developing high level operational processes and measures that support business growth and operational excellence
  • Proven success in change management, process and methodologies
  • Skilled Microsoft Projects, Visio, Word & Excel user
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, particularly adept at simplifying and articulating complex topics and employing a wide range of communication styles to engage with all levels of the organisation
  • Excellent understanding of commercial and financial management,
  • budget control and cost optimisation
  • Experienced in influencing and negotiating with 3rd party suppliers and partners to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
