JOB TITLE: Senior Business Analyst

REPORTING TO: Business Solution Manager

ROLE PURPOSE: For complex projects (typically with significant business or high profile impact, and high risk dependencies), accountable and responsible for conducting effective analysis to clarify, evaluate business problems and opportunities for change in a manner which supports the identification of solutions which deliver value to House of Fraser, as well as the subsequent design of the business (process and organisational) elements of the solution This includes documentation of requirements and business solutions using various methods, such as: Process Mapping; Use Cases; Impact Mapping; Functional Requirements Specifications; and Features (User Stories). Alongside utilising data to assess and evaluate ideas, and develop justifications.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy & Planning

  • Support the creation of robust and compelling project proposals and business cases providing technical inputs as needed to meet desired business outcomes
  • Validate proposed business and technical solution designs and test approaches to ensure alignment with requirements and business needs
  • Investigate new requests for work to determine high level business requirements and assessing feasibility in conjunction with Architects and Business Solution Manager
  • Support the on-going development and implementation of business analysis and business solution design methods, tools and practices to encourage improvement in business analysis work carried out by the team

Business Demand Management

  • For complex or significant programmes/project work with the business to methodically investigate, analyse and elicit business requirements aligned with the objectives of the initiative/project
  • Ensure identified requirements are documented (covering business, functional, non-functional) and are prioritised
  • Carry out analysis of impact, risks, technical dependencies and review/validate expected benefits
  • Underpin the analysis with a robust understanding of the current business situation
  • Ensure requirements and solution scope remain aligned and focussed on delivery of business benefits through regular discussion with the Business Solution Manager
  • Manage and co-ordinate business analysis activities for a group of BAs working on different workstreams across large/complex programmes

Business Solution Design

  • Discover and document the as-is process by applying various process modelling techniques.
  • Analyse, validate and document existing business processes and map functional and non-functional requirements onto the to-be process model in order to demonstrate the impact of change.
  • Design, model and document the to-be process, performing gap analysis and identifying areas for improvement
  • Assess & communicate impact of proposed solution on the organisation (people, organisation, processes, metrics & systems etc.)
  • Facilitate user acceptance testing of system changes and support change projects through to successful delivery, implementation and operation against pre-determined acceptance criteria
  • Support the business in the assessment of commercial viability of proposed change
  • Occasionally undertakes project management activities on small projects when requested, this includes producing the required documentation, management of the risks and budget, etc as specified in the operating model
  • Manage overall analysis efforts for projects/investigations of high complexity

Analysis, Evaluation & Documentation

  • Apply and monitor the use of modelling and analysis tools, methods and standards, giving special consideration to business perspectives
  • Assure quality of outputs generated by business analyst team members on any given investigation/project/programme

Change Management

  • Understand the full impact that technology solutions will have on the business and advises on how the associated change should be managed and communicated to ensure it is landed successfully
  • Support and ensure the business in undertaking the necessary preparation activities to allow process changes to be successfully embedded
  • Support the business in creating appropriate training plans, training materials and communication plans to support the business change activities

People Management

Act as a coach to the business analysts in the team, driving a culture of continuous improvement.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • ISEB / IIBA Business Analysis accreditation
  • Extensive experience working in a business analysis role, preferably in a retail environment
  • Strong demonstrable experience of developing business cases for investment and change
  • Strong experience in business analysis techniques, such as information gathering methods, requirements documentation, process modelling and process mapping
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and communicate with senior business-leaders, Business technology Leadership and wider BT team
  • Excellent facilitation skills, confident at acting as a liaison between the business stakeholders and technical delivery teams translating concepts into language that is easily understood by both parties
  • A good working understanding of Microsoft applications – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Visio
  • Proven business analysis skills applied in a work environment, experience of working within both Waterfall and iterative/Agile project environments along with knowledge of methodologies (e.g. Prince 2 and SCRUM) and tools (e.g. Jira / Confluence) and experience of working to time, cost, and quality objectives
  • Solid experience of conducting business analysis and managing requirements using a variety of best practice methods
  • Experience of working across the lifecycle of a variety of projects and experience of defining and leading analysis efforts on complex projects/programmes
  • Confident in requirement gathering techniques, facilitating workshops and delivering presentations assigned business areas and wider Business Technology Team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience working with project management principles, e.g. RAID logs, Project plans and budgets
  • Experience of working on projects with complex integration and data from multiple systems
  • Good level of understanding of technical terminology and preferably experience of working in a technical/e-commerce environment
  • Good understanding of software development practices
  • Demonstrable ability to take ownership and make decisions in a fast paced environment
  • Proactive in problem solving and ensuring the right people are involved
